About John
Before joining Glassman & Zissimopulos, John J. Kelly was a prosecutor in the Alachua County State Attorney's Office, where he handled more than a thousand criminal cases. That experience gave him an inside understanding of how the state builds and tries a case, knowledge he now puts to work for the people he defends.
A standout on the University of Florida trial team, John won state and national championships as a competitor and has coached teams to titles ever since. He also teaches trial practice and advocacy at UF's College of Law, and represents clients in criminal law, personal injury, and family law.
Personal Life
John was born and raised on Long Island, New York, before moving to Port Charlotte, Florida, where he finished high school. He decided to become a trial lawyer the same day he joined his high school mock trial team, came to Gainesville for the University of Florida, and never wanted to leave. He and his wife, Meredith, have two dogs, Riley and Toffee.
Off the Clock
John and Meredith are big Tampa Bay Lightning fans and get to as many games as they can each year. He loves board and party games, tells stories more than he probably should, and, after getting talked into a few wine clubs on a trip to Napa, now cheerfully considers himself a sommelier, though he admits he may just be in it for the cheese.
